In a recent article in NSTA Reports, "Educators Find Evidence for Practice of Arguing", educators reported an increase in student learning when incorporating arguing from evidence in their curricula. Of the 71.6% of educators who use this approach, 89% said they found student learning increased. Educators who incorporated these principles, also stated that they did not receive professional development for these practices.
This brings many questions to mind...the first being "Why aren't we including these important CCSS strategies in our profession development activities?" My opinion on this is that many educators that are in the position of professional development, have not been in the classroom to impliment these strategies.
Any thoughts on hope we can improve this?
