Chemistry

This chemistry course is an eleventh grade course required for public school students graduating with the Louisiana Core Four curriculum, and required for graduation from the private schools. I have taught this course in both private and public schools, and I teach them in the same manner, following the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum, and ensuring mastery of GLEs. My chemistry courses tend to be case study based, depending on what the big “problems” are in the news. My first year at Rummel, I used hydraulic fracturing (aka: franking) as the main real-world link to connect the concepts. This past year, I used water-quality and a fish-kill in a lake to help guide the students through the concepts. The students work through inquiry-based scenarios and problems while they try, throughout the year, to determine the cause of the fish-kill.
